The Hail Mary

The Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

The Holy Mass

On Sundays, we go to Mass. Jesus is there in the person of the priest. He offers himself again to the Father. Jesus redeems us again to the Father. Jesus redeems us again from sin and evil.

Jesus is present in the Mass. It is he who speaks to us in the readings of the Mass. When the priest reads the Gospel or gives the homily, he speaks to us in Jesus name. Let us listen attentively to his Word.

During the preparation of the Gifts, bread and wine are brought as offering and we prepare our hearts to offer ourselves with Jesus. During the Eucharistic prayer, the bread and wine become Jesus himself. It is then that Jesus offers himself to the Father. We cannot see Jesus, but we can see the priest. The priest speaks and acts in the name of Jesus. Through the priest, Jesus offers himself and us to the Father. We are all invited to join Jesus in offering himself to the Father, and to offer ourselves with Jesus.

During communion, we eat of the body and we drink of the blood of Jesus. “He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood will have eternal life,” Jesus had said. The person who receives Holy Communion should not be in mortal sin. Communion is received for love of Jesus and not in order to be seen and admired by others: Jesus wants to come to us so that he may fill us withhis grace. The friends of Jesus avoid sin because serious sin separates them from God and even small sins hurts our friendship with God.
